Organising content flows around the ILRI web

FRONT PAGE

ILRI Top Stories is a feed from the ILRINews Blog. This comprises 2 types of content:
- Longer original feature stories about ILRI work. Illustrated with photos. Heavy editorial. At least 8 a month?
- Shorter ‘signposting’ items that alert readers to interesting outputs and outcomes of ILRI work – new reports or publications, videos, events, speeches etc. Between 8 and 12per month.
- Stories need to be assigned suitable categories from the defined list; additional tags can be assigned as needed (eg for countries) – as much as possible follow what went before. The tag ‘ILRI’ should be used for any story that is about an ILRI activity. Photos are uploaded to flickr (to the ‘blogpics’ set) and given suitable titles and captions. They are then embedded in the blog. Any other images in the story are uploaded to wordpress and linked to.

Livestock News is a feed from the ILRI Clippings blog. This alerts readers to relevant articles, stories, happenings in the ‘livestock’ sector (anything closely linked to our mandate). Stories are normally a headline, a short introduction, and a link to an external source.
- Stories need to be assigned suitable categories form the defined list; additional tags can be assigned as needed (eg for countries) – as much as possible follow what went before. The tag ‘ILRI’ should be used for any story that is about an ILRI activity. If needed, suitable photos can be linked from the ILRI flickr account.

Latest Publications is a feed from the Dspace repository maintained by the InfoCentre. It is important that only the new additions are listed here.

The Photo is taken from the ILRI flickr account – the set called ‘Top Photos’. These photos need to have good titles and captions and be compressed for easy loading on the website.

The Search page uses a Google Co-op search that searches all ILRI-associated web sites. Any new websites need to be added to this search.

The Front page also links to:
- Our photo account
- Our film account
- Our presentations account
- Our google calendar
- Our linkedin account
- Our twitter account

SPECIFIC PAGES

Our Calendar page shows several Google Calendars. These should, over time, include entries for all workshops and events organised by ILRI, held on an ILRI campus, or concerning the wider livestock and development agenda. We want to show all events at ILRI, indicating where appropriate within the calendar entry that they are ‘by invitation only’. Events should have the full official name of the event as their title field.

Our Contact us page has a map of ILRI locations embedded on a Google map. Individual email addresses should be replaced when available by an institutional address (eg, ilri-addis@cgiar.org).

FEEDS

All feeds that we advertise and use MUST come from our feedburner account (its address should look something like: http://feeds.feedburner.com/feedname). This allows us to track usage of our stats.

FLICKR, SLIDESHARE AND BLIP

It is essential that everything we upload has a suitable title/ headline (for Slideshare, this should be the exact title of the presentation). Each item also has a space for some descriptive notes.

Presentations should indicate the name of the presenter, the month and year the presentation was given, and if possible the name of the event. Videos should have a short description of the content.

Photos should provide any further information as needed. Make sure all of these are tagged with ‘ILRI’ plus any other tags you think might be useful (select from the list at the end of this document).
